BOYS POLE VAULT
CAMP
Marty Dahlman is the head boys track coach and head cross
country at Watkins Memorial High School in Pataskala, Ohio (near Columbus), and
has been there since 1978. He graduated from Denison
University with a BA in Political
Studies in 1978, and earned an sMEd in Sports Science from Ashland
University in 1987. He
also serves as the Dean of Students of the High School. As the Watkins Track and Cross Country Coach,
Coach Dahlman has led his teams to 34 Conference Championships and over 120
invitational wins. In the pole vault Coach Dahlman has sent 20
vaulters to the state championships, with eight all Ohio vaulters. He has
coached three athletes over 15’, ten more over 14’, and twenty over 13
feet. Coach Dahlman has served as the
Pole Vault Safety Chairman for the Ohio Track Coaches Association for the past
five years. He was part of the first Ohio Pole Vault Safety committee in
1993, credited with saving the pole vault in Ohio. He has done safety
clinics all over the state, and wrote the current curriculum for pole vault
education in Ohio. Coach Dahlman has
spoken at the Ohio and Michigan State Track Coaches Clinics. He founded
the Watkins Pole Vault Camp in 1999. In addition he has coached at
several nationally known pole vault camps.
